'Indiana' under the stars in Innisfil

INNISFIL -- Indiana Jones is coming to Innisfil Beach Park, courtesy of a new public-private- partnership between Pratt Homes, the Town of Innisfil and the Innisfil Public Library.

The first of what the town hopes is a series of outdoor movies -- Fresh Air Flicks -- Raiders of the Lost Ark will be shown on a big 25-foot screen the evening of Wednesday, July 27 near the park's concession stand. The movies start at sundown (about 9 p.m.) and admission is free.

Movie-goers are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets, according to Erin Scuccimarri, of the Innisfil Public Library.

"It's a way of bringing the community together," she said, adding the library already offers different types of media (CDs, DVDs, etc.) to library users and the Fresh Air Flicks would be an extension of that.

"It's going to be a fun evening. The Indiana Jones movies engage a full spectrum of people," Scuccimarri said. This year is the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Machu Picchu, in Peru, on which the movie is loosely based, she added.

"People may think that libraries only focus on books, but films play such an important part in keeping people interested in stories and storytelling," said Innisfil's chief librarian, Susan Downs.

"Working with great local partners like Pratt Homes supports the key directions set by the Inspiring Innisfil Strategic Plan, to build partnerships that will bring the community together," she added.

"Pratt Homes is proud to support a community event that brings people together in a safe and fun environment," said Douglas Trumble, sales and marketing manager for Pratt Construction.

Rain date for the event will be July 28.
