Campbell's Pepperidge Farm remembers, also looks forward with innovation center
Site in Norwalk, Conn.Campbell’s is a dominant player in soups and snacks, with nearly $8 billion in annual sales, with Pepperidge Farm accounting for $1.3 billion of that.
Anyone with young kids likely has a bag of Goldfish, a loaf of Pepperidge Farm Original White or an (empty) Milanos bag in the house.
But the company is pushing for new ideas.
“This investment is the latest step in our effort to drive increased innovation and create new products to delight consumers,” said Morrison. “Pepperidge Farm has delivered outstanding innovations that have contributed to the growth of Campbell for more than 50 years, and we expect the new innovation center to fuel further collaboration and growth across our global baking-and-snacking portfolio.”

The 34,000-square-foot innovation center is described as a “state-of-the-art pilot plant with product development and testing lines, culinary kitchens, scientific labs and meeting rooms.” It was also designed as a LEED-certified “green” building, featuring water conservation systems, day-light harvesting and recycled building materials.
Ground breaking is next month and Pepperidge Farm can start working there by fall 2012.

Breads baked for the store on a daily basis include honey whole wheat, peasant white, apple streusel, 7 grain crunch and three seed healthy loaf. At least one of the cinnamon loaves like cinnamon swirl or cinnamon raisin is also available daily.
