Umenyiora Talks To Giants President John Mara
New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora is one of 10 players who are plaintiffs in the Brady vs. NFL federal antitrust lawsuit. And last week, Umenyiora was invited to attend the talks between the NFL and NFLPA.
While Umenyiora didn’t actually participate in the talks, he reportedly spoke to Giants president John Mara and NFLPA chief DeMaurice Smith during a break, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.com/new york .
ESPN reporter Sal Paolantonio was interviewed on the Ryan Ruocco and Robin Lundberg radio show on 1050 ESPN New York and talked about what took place between Umenyiora and Mara.
“I don’t know the details of the conversation, but I’m told that around the periphery there was a discussion about at least how to make Osi Umenyiora happy,” Paolantonio said. “And I was told very specifically that Umenyiora is sticking to his gun. And you know what he wants.”
Umenyiora wants either a bigger contract with the Giants, or else he wants to be traded to another team who will give him a bigger contract, something he said was promised to him by Giants General Manager Jerry Reese.
What happens with Umenyiora could have an effect on the outcome between the NFL and NFLPA.
“They all want to be taken care of,” Paolantonio said. “If [Umenyiora] doesn’t get it [a raise], he doesn’t sign off on the deal. If he doesn’t sign off on the deal, we have no deal league-wide. So there is going to be some kind of deal to make Osi happy.

Giants’ safety Antrel Rolle was brought in as a free agent last year (one of the lucky ones to land a big deal before the labor impasse) and he came through by delivering a Pro Bowl season. He is tired of sitting around waiting for the settlement to be announced. He wants to play.
Of course he does. No one would want to miss out a paycheck as large as his!!! From Ohm Younmisuk at ESPN New York: Antrel Rolle figures all he needs is a couple of weeks to get back in football shape. The Giants safety says he is shape now and it won’t take long to get back into playing shape. “I’m in great shape right now,” Rolle said in a radio interview with WQAM’s Gino Torretta and Steve White in Miami. “I wouldn’t say I’m in great football shape, but I’m in great shape. The only thing that is going to prepare you to get into football shape is actually playing football, so once you get out there with the guys and run around and do a couple of drills and have a little contact.
