ATV group plans forest rides
The White Mountain Open Trails Association's (WMOTA) last ride in the Apache side of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest was on May 21. When the Wallow Fire began, however, it essentially closed off that part of the forest to trail riders.
While the Wallow Fire was recently fully contained, Maurice Colwell of WMOTA said the group planned ahead and still plans to hold monthly rides elsewhere in the state.
The May ride, led by Fred Parry, served as a tribute ride to Stan Rae, a former WMOTA member and dear friend of the organization who passed away. The ride area included the Escudilla Mountain, which has since burned extensively in the Wallow Fire.
Colwell said WMOTA's ride committee met in early June to plan rides in the Sitgreaves section until the closed areas of the Apache National Forest are reopened. He said they had a June ride that was based in the Heber area that led to Forest Lakes, Red Knoll and Old Wyrick Ranch. Later this month, the club is planning a camp-out with rides and competition events in the old Whiplash race area. He said the competition events will take place July 23 and people will probably begin camping out as early as July 20 or July 21.
On August 15, Colwell said the club will begin a week-long camping and riding excursion on the north rim of the Grand Canyon, led by Andy Riberio. September, he said, is when WMOTA hopes to be back in the Apache side of the forest.
On July 8, various recreation areas on the Apache side of the Forest, such as Big Lake and adjacent developed campgrounds, Greer lakes and nearby developed campgrounds, Lee Valley and Winn Campground, Nelson Reservoir and Luna Lake, reopened, while the remainder of the forest remain closed. Colwell said on Sept. 17 they hope things will be as back to normal as soon as possible and the organization wants to have a ride in the Green's Peak area.
The group also plans to attend the Arizona ATV Outlaw Trail Jamboree in Eagar during that time. While the Wallow Fire is reported to have burned through much of the area's trails, Colwell said Apache County ATV Roughriders officers and the Jamboree sponsors are committed to the event as planned, even if some of the rides have to be modified.
Colwell said later rides are planned for Oct. 22 in the Cottonwood/Jerome area and Nov. 10-12 for the Benson area.

Some ITP wheels have got 4 holes drilled,or cast into the backside that one always lines up with that brake adjustment cover plug,and it will go inside of that recessed hole... It does on my Rubis drum front brakes,and ITP wheels anyhoo...I'd make extra certain to NEVER add any fluid in that hole behind the red plug other than possibly fresh clean water to hose out the brakes...
